Using Snapshot to switch between different versions of JDEdwards®
EnterpriseOne® is not without its little issues:
- The shortcuts are all pointing to different folders, making it hard to find
the correct one, plus easy - to run the wrong one, screwing up half of the
configuration;
- Snapshot does not restore all registry settings properly, causing
innumerable (and different from release to release) issues;
- There's only one PATH variable, making it easy to run wrong executables
(e.g.: UTB is started from FastPath using the "first found" copy of the EXE) or
to load wrong DLL's, again causing more grief.
OneExplorer rectifies all three issues above:
- The only icon you will need to use from now on is OneExplorer itself, the rest you can delete from your desktop;
- When starting up, OneExplorer fixes any registry settings missed by
Snapshot;
- Next, it corrects the PATH variable and then
- It starts up the correct version of JDEdwards® EnterpriseOne® - the one, which was activated with Snapshot
last.
These are the main effects of using this solution:
- No more "Memory Violations" on startup *);
- No issues with OMW functionality - usual with snapshot'ed versions *);
- No more issues with running UTB or RDA, etc. *)
- No need to check the currently active version of JDEdwards® EnterpriseOne® and waste time finding the correct icon
to start it up;
- Clean up your Windows® desktop from the now
unnecessary numerous copies of JDEdwards® EnterpriseOne® icons.
Note: OneExplorer does not replace Snapshot. It's used after switching
between OW installations with Snapshot, to start the correct version of OW and
fix certain issues, caused by Snapshot.
Installation instructions: Unzip the executable and either place it on
your Windows® desktop, or place it anywhere on your
computer and create a shortcut on your Windows®
desktop, pointing to the actual executable. To un-install, delete the executable
(and any shortcuts pointing to it).
*) - at least, no more than usual with a single installation of
JDEdwards®
EnterpriseOne® - this tool does not fix all possible issues,
it only helps to alleviate some of the issues, commonly caused by Snapshot.
